Science Curriculum Vision

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Jeremiah 29:11

At St. Matthew’s Primary School our vision is to give children a Science curriculum which enables them to explore and discover the world around them, confidently, so that they have a deeper understanding of the world we live in. Science is rapidly growing and is an important industry in the modern world. Even if children do not become scientists they will grow up in a world that requires scientific literacy and critical thinking skills. Science is all around us and helps children to make sense of the world.

At St. Matthew’s we recognise the importance of Science and strive to maintain a high profile for the subject within our school. Our desire to enthuse and inspire children to develop a lifelong love of science is reflected in our curriculum, extra-curricular activities and learning environments.

A scientist observers, questions, creates hypotheses, experiments, records data, and then analyses that data. All children can be scientists by following their own natural curiosity and at St. Matthew’s teachers help to facilitate these skills, by creating exciting, practical hands on experiences that encourage curiosity and questioning, in order to help the children to flourish. Our aim is that these stimulating and challenging experiences will help children secure and extend their scientific knowledge and vocabulary. We believe that these opportunities will ensure that our children are confident, life-long learners who will explore the world around them.
