Attendance at St Matthew's CE Primary School
Attendance is a priority at St Matthew's. We support the Department for Education's attendance strategy following the Covid 19 pandemic. According to the DfE School Attendance Guidance (May 2022):
Central to raising standards in education and ensuring all pupils can fulfil their potential is an assumption so widely understood that it is insufficiently stated – pupils need to attend school regularly to benefit from their education. Missing out on lessons leaves children vulnerable to falling behind. Children with poor attendance tend to achieve less in both primary and secondary school.
We know that low school attendance can impact children not just academically, but also socially and emotionally. School attendance was impacted by the COVID 19 pandemic and raising attendance is one of our priorities moving forward to ensure that children make progress and achieve their full potential.
In line with this, please find below our Attendance Policy and new Attendance Strategy.
