What is Spiritulaity?
At St Matthew's, we believe that Spirituality is the deep, inner life that connects us to ourselves, to others, to the world around us, and to God. It is expressed through wonder, joy, stillness, empathy, imagination, and the courage to ask life’s big questions. While grounded in our Christian faith, we honour the spiritual journey of every member of our diverse school community.
How do we make space for Spirituality at St Matthew's?
At St Matthew’s, we believe that every child is on a unique journey, guided by God’s promise in Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” We nurture spirituality through weekly open-ended reflection sessions, where children are encouraged to explore life’s big questions and express their thoughts, feelings, and actions in a safe and respectful space. Our Worship Whiteboard invites pupils to respond to themes of the week, share prayers, and reflect on how faith connects to their daily lives. Through collective worship, classroom discussions, and opportunities to wonder, we help children grow in their understanding of themselves, others, and the world around them.
We have developed the following questions to help children explore their Spirituality
