Mental Health Support
At St Matthew's CE Primary School, we believe that supporting pupils' mental health is as important as nurturing their academic development. Rooted in our school vision, inspired by Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” – we are committed to helping every child feel valued, safe, and hopeful about their future.
To support pupil well-being, we offer learning mentor support for children who need individual guidance, alongside an embedded well-being curriculum that promotes resilience and emotional literacy. Our wider curriculum is designed to develop the whole child, encouraging personal growth as well as academic success, while our dedicated safeguarding curriculum ensures children know how to keep themselves safe and seek help when needed.
We work closely with an Education Mental Health Support Worker through our NHS partnership, providing early intervention and targeted support, and where appropriate, we can access specialist services via CAHMS referrals to ensure pupils receive the care they need.
Staff are trained in identifying and supporting children who may need support with their mental health, and we use robust safeguarding software to report and track concerns, ensuring the best possible outcomes for children.
By creating a caring, proactive environment, we aim to equip every child with the emotional tools and confidence to thrive.
