Sports Premium
Government Sports Grant
The Government is providing additional funding to improve provision of Physical Education (PE) and Sport in Primary Schools. This funding - provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport – has been allocated to primary school head teachers.
This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools. It must be used to fund additional and sustainable improvements to the provision of PE across the school and particularly, to encourage the development of healthy, active lifestyles.
Sports Premium Funding 2025–26
At St Matthew's, we believe in nurturing the whole child—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Guided by our school vision, inspired by Jeremiah 29:11 — “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future” — we are committed to providing opportunities that help every child flourish.
In the 2025–26 academic year, our Sports Premium funding will support this vision through:
- Lunchtime Sports Coaching: Encouraging active, purposeful play that builds confidence and wellbeing.
- After-School Sports Clubs: Offering inclusive opportunities for all pupils to discover and develop their talents.
- A Challenging and Inclusive PE Curriculum: Ensuring every child is supported to grow, persevere, and achieve their personal best.
- Participation in Sporting Events: Enabling pupils to represent the school in competitions such as District Sports and Frays events, fostering teamwork, resilience, and pride.
Through these initiatives, we aim to help every child realise their potential and step confidently into the future God has planned for them.
