Welcome

Welcome to St Matthew's School website!

A very warm welcome to our school community.

At the heart of everything we do is our vision, inspired by Jeremiah 29:11

“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.’”

This promise underpins our belief in the unique potential of every child, and guides our mission to nurture confident, compassionate, and courageous learners who are prepared to thrive in an ever-changing world.

As a Church of England school, our Christian faith is the foundation of our values and daily life. Daily collective worship is the beating heart of our school, offering a moment of reflection, connection, and spiritual growth for all. Our close relationship with the local church enriches our school community and supports our shared vision of flourishing together.

We are a nurturing and inclusive school, where every child is known, seen, valued, and supported. We are committed to safeguarding and the wellbeing of every pupil — ensuring a safe, caring, and respectful environment where children are encouraged to grow in faith, character, and confidence.

Our curriculum is broad, challenging, and rooted in oracy — the power of spoken language — which underpins all learning across the school. Through a focus on communication, confidence, faith, wellbeing, possibility, and understanding our place in the world, we empower children to express themselves with clarity and purpose.

We are deeply committed to developing the whole child. Our teaching encourages self-advocacy, resilience, and the confidence to navigate the world around them. While we offer strong pastoral support (including a learning mentor, Education Mental Health Practitioner, Family Support Worker) we also set high expectations, helping every child to strive for excellence while feeling safe and supported.

We believe that every child has a voice, every child has potential, and every child deserves the chance to shine so they can realise the plan that God has for them. Thank you for taking the time to explore our school — we hope you find joy, inspiration, and a sense of belonging here.
