About

St. Matthew's Primary School is a two-form entry Church of England Primary School, part of the London Diocese and London Borough of Hillingdon. The school mainly serves the communities of Yiewsley and West Drayton, although there is small proportion of pupils who travel from other wards and from outside the London Borough of Hillingdon. The school was built in 1872, originally as two separate schools. The Infant School was known as St Stephen's and was a Local Authority School. The Junior School held the current title and was attached to the Diocese. In the mid 1970s, the two schools were amalgamated to form St. Matthew's Primary School. During this time, the school has continued to serve the Church and the community.

Although the school is situated on a small site behind the Church, this has not prevented us from developing an exciting and enriching education for our pupils. Many of the buildings have been modernised to provide an education for the 21st Century. The site has been maximised to allow creative use of all the facilities. The Church and School work hard together to ensure that all the facilities on site can be used to our mutual advantage.

There is a strong Christian ethos in the school which extends and works in parallel with the ethos of the Church. Families are encrouaged to participate in the life of the school and the church and pupils of the school are often involved in 'All-age worship' on a Sunday morning.

St. Matthew's has a strong focus on being an inclusive school; the mission statement and aims of the school reflect this and promoted by the school's motto: 'Through Friendship and Faith'.
