St Matthew’s CE Primary School

Our Curriculum Vision

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Jeremiah 29:11

At St Matthew’s Church of England Primary School, we aim to deliver a curriculum that enables our children to become educated citizens who can meaningfully contribute to making our community successful. Together with our deeply Christian ethos, our curriculum helps our children to develop into resourceful, resilient problem-solvers who are independent and inquisitive, as well as accepting of themselves and others.

Our aim is to develop the whole child, giving them the knowledge and skills to be successful in whatever path they choose to follow. Our stimulating curriculum, underpinned by our Christian ethos and values, is driven by the following:

  • The importance of having faith, in themselves and in God
  • The necessity for well-being - mentally, physically and spiritually
  • Understanding of our place in the world and the positive relationships we build, both within and beyond our own community
  • Openness to possibilities: to be aspirational and ambitious, empowered by the knowledge that life is full of opportunities
  • To have the confidence to follow their own path, being guided by the values and faith instilled in them
  • That communication is the cornerstone of all human interaction: a key that opens doors to the future

In today’s fast-moving world, filled with obstacles and challenges, we aspire to give children a voice: to provide them with the depth of knowledge, skills and understanding that will enable them to reach their full potential. We aim to provide opportunities for children, both within the classroom and beyond, which will enable them to respond to the Big Questions that life often poses. With the strength God has given them, and a solid foundation of knowledge and skill, the children of St Matthew’s will take life’s difficulties in their stride, showing resilience, confidence and a strong sense of self.

Our curriculum teaches children the skills of listening, communication and teamwork. Through building positive relationships with others, the children of St Matthew’s will develop empathy, an understanding of how their behaviour impacts others. They will be open minded, excited to celebrate others and share their successes.

Our curriculum is constantly evolving to match the needs of our children and their families, community and the world. We aim to achieve a perfect balance between knowledge and skills, providing a curriculum where children can make links between new and existing knowledge. With a curriculum that transcends the classroom, and allows children to make connections across ideas, our children will be empowered to be in control of their own future, supported by guidance from God.
